Our Legacy, Unified
Over a Century of Service to Bensalem
The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) is the product of a rich, courageous history that dates back over 100 years. Born from the local neighborhoods of Bensalem Township, our department was built on the foundation of six independent fire companies — each a pillar of its community:
From Neighbors to a Unified Force
For decades, these companies operated as independent entities, fueled by local volunteers who left their dinner tables and jobs at a moment's notice to protect their neighbors. From the early days of horse-drawn tankers to the acquisition of modern high-tech apparatus like Tower 16 and Squrt 44, the spirit of service remained constant.
In June 2024, recognizing the evolving needs of our growing township and the changing landscape of volunteerism, these historic companies officially consolidated into one unified Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department.
